The Royal Mail has announced it is cutting 1,600 jobs just five months after its privatisation.

Royal Mail to take on 21,000 Christmas staff

Mon, 09/09/2013 - 11:23 -- nick

The Royal Mail is to take 21,000 new staff on this Christmas to deal with the seasonal rush in business.

The organisation has 124,000 permanent staff to deliver and sort post all year round, and the new people will work alongside them.

Jobs include some shift work, and part-time and full-time opportunities are available.

The work doesn't just take place in December: temp staff can start as early as mid-November and work right through to mid-January.

Most of the jobs are in sorting, and no previous experience is required.

Cheaper stamps for benefit claimants

Mon, 08/10/2012 - 12:23 -- nick

The Royal Mail has begun sending out leaflets to UK residents setting out who can buy stamps at lower prices.

Prices went up earlier this year, but some benefit claimants will be allowed to buy 36 stamps at the old prices, 46p for a first class stamp and 36p for a second class stamp.

The scheme will be launched on 6th November, meaning those on benefits could use the stamps at Christmas, traditionally the busiest time for the postal service.

The offer is available to those who receive Pension Credit, Incapacity Benefit or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
