4. Day One, Week One.

Mon, 08/10/2012 - 19:51 -- The Recruiter

This week, the Recruiter’s office has been filled with young people on work experience. They are here to learn a bit about what we do, and one’s already decided that a life in recruitment is his future goal. A sensible choice!

Their presence got me thinking – what do people know about the ‘rules’ of the workplace?

Most large employers will have a policy setting out the expectations and regulations of the company, many small businesses won’t have this, but should explain the basic rules to you.

3. Inspired by a generation

This week, the Recruiter has been glued to the television, watching the Paralympics. I was lucky enough to get tickets to see some of the sporting action – truly inspirational.

What really struck me was not what the participants had in common – incredible drive and determination, and huge skill – but how diverse they were. A range of backgrounds, ages, disabilities and genders, their life stories are as interesting as their sporting achievements.

So what’s all that got to do with you and your job search? Well, let’s look at how you might prepare for an interview.

I wanted to give you some do’s and don’ts to make the best use of these events. Remember, a jobs fair is your first chance to impress a future employer, so make a note of these tips – they might just help you get that job you want.

1. New Year, New Job, New You

Mon, 28/05/2012 - 16:29 -- The Recruiter

As 2012 makes its mark, it’s a good time to think about the future. Like many people, I made my New Year’s resolution on the 1st of January, persuading myself that I would go running twice a week, every week. My trainers will become my new best friends, the towpath my new home, and I will run further and further each week.

For many people, the resolution will be to get a new job.
